Tiffin Life

Curriculum, Teaching & Learning

At Tiffin, Learning is one of our three School Values and sits at the heart of school life. We believe learning should be intellectually challenging, deeply rewarding and genuinely enjoyable. Our classrooms are places of curiosity, scholarship and high expectation, where effort is valued and ideas are explored. We want every student to become a confident, independent thinker who takes pride in their learning and develops a lifelong love of knowledge.

Our teaching is ambitious, specialist and evidence-informed, rooted in deep subject expertise and a shared commitment to academic excellence. The curriculum is carefully sequenced so that students build secure knowledge over time, think critically and grow in confidence and independence.

From Year 7 to Year 13, students experience a coherent, knowledge-rich education delivered by passionate subject specialists. Alongside the examined curriculum, we place great value on a rich non-examined curriculum – including the arts, sport, enrichment and wider opportunities – which plays a vital role in students’ intellectual, personal and cultural development. Through our Teach@Tiffin framework, teaching is clear, consistent and purposeful, ensuring that every student is supported, challenged and enabled to flourish.

Teach@Tiffin: Our Teaching Framework

Teach@Tiffin is our whole-school approach to high-quality teaching.  It ensures that all students experience clarity, consistency and high expectations in every classroom.

These shared expectations reduce distraction, maximise learning time and allow teachers to focus on scholarship.

Our Curriculum

Tiffin has designed a curriculum that is:

  • Ambitious –  academically rigorous across all subjects
  • Knowledge-rich – clear about what students must know, remember and apply
  • Carefully sequenced – learning builds cumulatively over time
  • Rooted in disciplines – students learn not just content, but how knowledge is constructed within each subject

Our curriculum is designed so that all students can access demanding academic content while receiving the support they need to succeed.

All departments use shared Schemes of Knowledge to ensure clarity, consistency and progression from Year 7 to Year 13.  Our Departmental Curriculum Statements provide a clear overview of what is being studied in every subject in every year.

Curriculum development is ongoing and strategic, ensuring coherence and sustained improvement.

Curriculum Pillars

At Tiffin, teaching and learning are grounded in scholarship, clarity and high expectations. Our aim is simple: that every student is known, challenged and inspired to achieve their very best.

Chromebooks at Tiffin

Six years ago we successfully introduced Chromebooks to our students. This has taken teaching and learning to a whole new level. Our students’ daily lives are filled with technology and they are quick to embrace new developments. The use of Chromebooks is one way in which we are able to ensure students are equipped for this ever-changing climate. We believe using Chromebooks enables our pupils to become well-informed, responsible digital citizens and lifelong learners.

Remote Learning

At Tiffin School, we recognise the vital connection between wellbeing, academic achievement, and attendance. We work closely with parents to ensure students attend school in person to benefit fully from classroom learning.

In rare instances where a student is physically unable to attend school but is otherwise able to continue learning—for example, during recovery from surgery or injuries where attendance may hinder recovery—the school will be able to provide remote education. This support, based on an official specialist medical diagnosis, will include resources such as worksheets, textbooks and workbooks, along with teacher guidance and assessment.   This will be assigned through Google Classroom.  In some circumstances, the student might be able to access live lessons through Google Meet.

Should access to school buildings be restricted for a significant number of pupils over an extended period, the school will implement live online teaching for those students affected. This will follow the regular timetable and use the Google Meet platform. For pupils without digital or online access at home, the school will ensure they are provided with the necessary resources to participate in online learning.

In any case where a student is unable to attend school for a prolonged period, staff responsible for the pupil’s pastoral care will maintain close contact. This ensures the student’s welfare is safeguarded and their educational progress supported.
