Tiffin School completed a remarkably busy final week of the half-term, with students representing the school across six different sports right up until the autumn break.

RUGBY

Historic Outing at St Joseph’s National Festival: The U18 Girls’ 1st XV made history by participating in the inaugural girls’ tournament at the elite St Joseph’s College National Rugby Festival in Ipswich on 16th–17th October. Facing top national competition across two days, the squad delivered immense performances — a particularly staggering feat given that many players had only picked up a rugby ball for the first time a month prior.

The trip doubled as a highly successful “mini-tour,” kicking off on Thursday night with a team dinner in Ipswich filled with team bonding, “goldfish,” “windscreen wipers,” and “warning: bees” signs.

On the pitch, Day 1 saw the girls secure a magnificent, hard-fought draw against Northampton School for Boys, whose boys’ side had been crowned the best team in the country last season. Despite subsequent tough losses to Hill House and the elite academy side Cardinal Newman, Tiffin bounced back on Day 2, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final after a razor-thin semi-final loss to Hill House by just a single try. Huge thanks go to Mr Brown and Miss Passco for giving up their time at the end of a long half-term to lead this unforgettable bonding experience.

Meanwhile, the junior boys kept the rugby momentum flying high, with both the U14 and U15 squads concluding their half-term away on their own competitive fixtures tour.

NETBALL

Wins at Nonsuch: A busy Wednesday of sports featured three netball fixtures away at Nonsuch School. The 1st VII and 2nd VII teams both put on dominant displays to bring home fantastic victories. The 3rd VII fought valiantly in a highly competitive match, ultimately conceding a tight, narrow loss.

BADMINTON

Midweek Court Action: The Badminton 1st team put on a stellar performance on Wednesday, showing great depth and skill in their fixture against a tough Hampton side, winning strongly.

BASKETBALL

Season Opener: Over on the basketball courts, the U16 squad officially tipped off their competitive campaign on Thursday, enduring a tough season opener away against Wilson’s School.

CROSS COUNTRY

Championship Trials: Tiffin’s runners excelled on Wednesday during the first round of the English Schools Cross Country Championships, putting in highly successful individual and team performances.

Elite Training

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, a selected group of dedicated students who have been training hard for the Wimbledon Ball Boys and Girls programme for the 2027 tournament were rewarded with an exclusive taster session at the prestigious All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC) training centre.

With phenomenal buy-in from both students and staff across all six sports, the school enters the half-term break on a high, ready to return with a vengeance for the next block
