Unstoppable Tiffin: Record Numbers Defy the Late Summer Heat
An extraordinary late-summer heatwave left pitches across the region unplayable, forcing a delayed start to the rugby calendar for many. However, thanks to our fantastic relationship with St Paul’s School and the monumental efforts of our grounds team to get the 1st XV pitch ready, Tiffin Sport is officially back.
By the end of this coming weekend, every single boys’ rugby team will have played at least one fixture. With the girls XVs training hard already, their games will come thick and fast after half term and in their new kit, will be aiming to carry on the successes of last season’s heroics, culminating in their outstanding account at Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s.
Here is how our teams are shaping up across the school:
RUGBY REPORT
Senior Teams: Dominance at “Fortress Grists”
- 1st XV Cruises to Victory: Following quality training since August, the 1st XV showcased a coach’s dream combination of size, speed, skill and most importantly, effort. They dismantled a historically tough Windsor side 37–5 at Fortress Grists. Tife stole the show with a stunning hat-trick, supported by a brace from Ethan and a barnstorming power-score from George.
- Senior Depth: The 2nd XV put in a fiercely competitive performance against Windsor, narrowly missing out 22–12. Senior rugby is booming, with an incredible 40 players turning up for 2nd and 3rd team training. To accommodate this massive surge of Year 12 and 13 talent, the department has utilized the new MUGA and added extra training sessions. This immense depth will provide incredible competition for 1st XV shirts all season.
Junior & Intermediate Age Groups
- U16: Led superbly by Captain Adam, the squad has faced heavyweight rugby schools Dulwich and KCS and a fantastic, gritty win against John Fisher.
- U15: The team started their campaign brilliantly with a marquee win over St Paul’s. Noah tore the defence apart running beautiful lines to create scores, capped off by a spectacular cross-field kick try. Joue!
- U14: The boys have already tested themselves against the “big guns” of Dulwich and Hurstpierpoint in tournament play, alongside securing an impressive victory against St Paul’s.
- U13: Proving to be one of Tiffin’s absolute strongest year groups, the U13s secured a magnificent 15–0 clean-sheet victory against an Emanuel side that went completely unbeaten last season. Standout performances came from the Arthurs, Jemal, and Dakarayi.
- U12: The newest recruits have kicked off training with fantastic energy. They are eagerly anticipating their first-ever A, B, and C team fixtures this Friday in the block fixture against Halliford.
BEYOND THE RUGBY PITCH
While other competitive fixtures are still waiting to get underway, participation numbers across Tiffin are hitting historic highs:
- Football: Over 60 students packed out the pre-season training sessions.
- Netball: A brilliant turnout of 50 girls hit the courts for the very first training session of the year.
- Games Options: All other sports options and training sessions are absolutely bursting with participants and all students are encouraged to get involved by attending any of our sports clubs and training sessions which are detailed here:
