For the third year in a row, we were delighted to welcome the Cambridge Footlights to Tiffin School for an afternoon of comedy, creativity and quick thinking.

Thirty-Year 10 GCSE Drama students were selected to take part in a comedy sketch workshop, where they explored the art of improvisation, received an introduction to satire, and learnt how a simple idea can be developed into a fully realised comedy sketch. Students were encouraged to think boldly, work collaboratively and take creative risks as they experimented with comic timing, structure and character.

It was also particularly lovely to welcome back Shiv K, an ex-Tiffin student who is currently studying for a PhD in Engineering at Cambridge, as one of the workshop facilitators. Shiv helped guide students through the skills and devising techniques they were being introduced to, offering both expert support and a wonderful example of where creativity, confidence and curiosity can lead.

During the session, students worked with a sketch written by the Cambridge Footlights before creating their own versions and experimenting with alternative comic endings. The afternoon was full of energy, laughter and inventive ideas, and it was fantastic to see students so fully engaged in the process of making comedy.

The Cambridge Footlights now go on to a month of performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and we wish them the very best of luck with their exciting summer of performances.
