Further Success for Tiffin in the National Scientific Thinking Challenge!
The eagerly awaited results of the National Scientific Thinking Challenge, which our Year 10 students took part in on Monday 11th May 2026, have finally arrived.
The National Scientific Thinking Challenge was founded in 2021 during the pandemic as a joint venture by staff at Warwick, Southampton, Bristol, Newcastle, Manchester and Oxford Universities, and was designed to test student’s ability to solve scientific problems, as opposed to recall of taught material.
Awards are issued for performance against the rest of the country – Bronze for the top 40 % of entries, Silver for the top 25 % of entries, and Gold for the top 10% of entries. For context, there were 16,174 students across 255 schools that completed the challenge this year.
We have always enjoyed great success in this challenge, in the last 5 years that we have entered all of our Year 10 students; this year is no different! They have brought home 64 Gold, 66 Silver and 31 Bronze Awards. For the statistic lovers out there, whilst Tiffin made up just over 1 % of entries in the NSTC, we took just shy of 4 % of the Gold Awards on offer! Students can look forward to seeing their individual results and receiving their certificates in one of their Chemistry lessons before the end of the school year. Well done for another great set of results, Year 10!
