Summer Term 6

The return of the sunshine brought with it a full programme of cricket and tennis fixtures, making for another busy and successful week of sport. Our junior cricketers faced Reed’s School, while the senior teams took on Lancing College. There was also outstanding success on the athletics track at the Kingston Borough Championships.

The 1st XI returned from the half-term break in excellent fashion with a commanding victory over Lancing College. Captain Kajus won the toss and elected to bowl, a decision that was fully justified by a disciplined team performance in the field. Lancing were restricted to 112–7, with the entire bowling unit maintaining excellent control. Ishaan was the standout performer, returning impressive figures of 3–17.

In reply, Tiffin made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 17 overs. Zayan anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 49* as the side secured a resounding victory.

The U15As travelled to Lancing College and produced one of their strongest performances of the season. Batting first on a slow surface, they worked patiently to reach 126–8, with Rahul S and Cooper top-scoring with 21 apiece. The bowlers then took centre stage. A superb display of bowling and fielding saw Lancing dismissed for just 60, with wickets shared throughout the side. Hamza J was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with excellent figures of 2–7 from five overs, as Tiffin completed a comprehensive victory.

The U14As hosted Lancing at Grists and continued their fine form. After choosing to bowl, they restricted the visitors to 147, with Sanmay turning the game in Tiffin’s favour through a crucial spell of 3–16 after Lancing had raced to 60–0. The chase was handled expertly, with the ever-reliable Nirmay producing another outstanding innings of 75* to guide Tiffin to a comfortable seven-wicket win.

On Monday, the U14As travelled to King’s College School Wimbledon for their cup fixture. Tight bowling from Noah and Armaan helped restrict KCS to 126, and Tiffin looked firmly in control at 76–0 in reply. Unfortunately, regular wickets saw the required rate climb, and despite a spirited effort, the boys finished 10 runs short. It was nevertheless an excellent contest and one that could easily have gone the other way.

The U14Ds also faced KCS in a thrilling encounter that went right down to the final ball. Excellent bowling from Will F, William L and Casper restricted KCS to 108. Contributions from Tim G and Sohan kept the chase on track before Shriyaas calmly clipped a single from the final delivery to secure victory in dramatic fashion.

The U13s enjoyed a successful weekend against Reed’s School. The Bs chased down 119, thanks to Kian’s excellent figures of 2–18 and an unbeaten 30* from Advaith, who guided the side home. The Ds recorded a convincing 30-run victory, with Vihaan scoring 45 and Ronav starring with the ball. The Cs faced KCS on Tuesday and were unfortunate to come up just short in a closely fought match. Shivansh impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 25 and taking 2–7.

The U12s travelled to Reed’s School on Saturday and produced a number of excellent performances. The Bs secured a dominant victory, with both Mustafa and Mihir scoring unbeaten 50s. Yusuf A was the standout bowler, taking 3–11. The Cs won a thrilling match with just three balls remaining. Eddie S struck the perfect straight drive to seal victory and cap a fine team performance. The Ds narrowly missed out, losing by only five runs, but can take great pride from an outstanding effort. Ryan G was particularly impressive, finishing unbeaten on 23*.

On Wednesday, Tiffin competed at the Kingston Borough Athletics Championships, enjoying the school’s most successful meet in the last five years. There were outstanding performances across all age groups, with the Year 7 and Junior teams finishing 1st overall, while the Intermediate team placed 2nd, missing out on top spot by just two points. This was a tremendous achievement and a reflection of the hard work and commitment shown by all of our athletes throughout the season.

It has been another excellent week of sport, with impressive victories, dramatic finishes and outstanding individual performances across cricket and athletics. As the summer term continues, it is encouraging to see so many students competing with such enthusiasm, resilience and success.
