During Year 10 Focus Week, GCSE Drama students took part in a valuable enrichment programme designed to support their developing practical work and broaden their understanding of theatre-making.

Students began with a practical workshop led by The Paper Birds, a highly regarded devising theatre company known for verbatim and socially engaged theatre. This helped students explore how themes, research and stimulus material can be developed into original performance. They then continued this work through teacher-led devising sessions, building their ideas further and strengthening their understanding of the creative process.

In the afternoon, students visited the Rose Theatre for a backstage tour and careers workshop. They gained insight into the workings of a professional theatre and heard from a panel of theatre professionals, who shared their career journeys, routes into the industry and reflections on why working in theatre is so rewarding. Students also had great fun trying on a variety of props and costumes, which provided a lively and memorable end to a wonderful day of Drama.

It was fantastic to see students engaging with such energy, maturity and curiosity, making the most of these opportunities to develop as young theatre-makers.
