Chess continues to thrive at Tiffin with regular attendance at the chess clubs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The chess teams competed in the regional rounds of the English Schools Chess Championship before Christmas and our A, B and C teams all made it through to the knock-out stages.  Games have been played against many schools:  Dulwich College, Ellen Wilkinson School, Gunnersbury School, Lycée Francais, St Paul’s School amongst others.

The 6 players in the A team have already played their first knock-out games and are through to the next round, having beaten Dunottar School (Reigate) 5 – 1 on Tuesday evening.  The B and C teams will play their knock-out games very soon.

Individually, students are also excelling:

  • Isaac L competed in and won the London U18 and U21 Chess Championship over the Christmas holidays, retaining titles that he won the previous year.  He is also Southern Counties Champion as well.
  • Reyansh S and Iaroslav B, who are both in Year 7, made their A team debuts against Dunottar School – a great future in chess awaits for these 2 students.
