Thirty-two intrepid Year 12 Gold Duke of Edinburgh adventurers trekked up to the Lake District for their final assessed expedition, from 14th-17th June. Juggling university open days and long train journeys they arrived at the Keswick Hostel where they all had a fun night together before setting out early the next morning to hit the trail. The final expedition involved four days of rigorous hiking carrying everything they needed on their backs, moving from one campsite to another with a bit of wild camping thrown in the mix.
Don’t be fooled by the lovely scenic pictures, as they endured driving sheets of rain, thunderstorms and gale-force winds atop the mountains, for three out of four days! They even had to huddle in a mountain one evening before wild camping and spent much of the expedition sopping wet, arriving home looking like they just emerged from the trenches. However, their spirits were undaunted, they persevered, and all thirty-two survived the ordeal–and by all accounts had a fantastic time! Legends, who truly showed they are made of Gold! Huge congratulations to the whole cohort!
