On Monday, all Year 7 students participated in a vibrant and energetic Bhangra dance workshop led by Vijay from Nachda Sansaar, a traditional Punjabi dance company based in Birmingham.

Bhangra is a traditional folk dance originating from the Punjab region, originally performed as a form of celebration during the harvest festival of Vaisakhi. The dance is characterised by vigorous kicks, leaps, and bends of the body—often featuring upraised, thrusting arm or shoulder movements—performed to the lively beat of the dhol, a double-headed drum.

During the workshop, students had the opportunity to explore the cultural roots of Bhangra and learn a variety of key movements and sequences. The session was filled with high energy and enthusiasm as students embraced the rhythm of the dance. Vijay’s engaging teaching style and expert guidance made the workshop both educational and thoroughly enjoyable.

This experience not only gave students a deeper appreciation for South Asian culture but also helped build teamwork, confidence, and physical coordination in a fun and inclusive environment.
