In the sweltering 25-degree heat at ACS Cobham, Tiffin athletes delivered a stunning set of performances in what was hailed as the strongest showing from the school in over a decade. Against tough competition and under testing conditions, the team brought fire to the track, showcasing determination, skill, and team unity.
On the day, Tiffin proudly fielded its strongest-ever girls’ team! Elena K started the day with a captain’s opening performance in the Long Jump, where she led the competition in round one and round two, with a jump of 3.15 m. This was followed by a well-paced 400m for Elena K, where she recorded a strong time of 1 minute 15 seconds. Rowan N then took on the 800m and ran an excellent race, finishing in 3 minutes 04 seconds.
The track session started with both Alexander K and Josh C competing in the 100m. Alexander K showed control and power pushing through to a podium finish, whilst Josh C gave it everything battling to the line and just missing out on victory by fractions. Both sprints showed grit and consistency against the competition.
Following this was Andrew T in the 400m, who came out hard and fast, setting a strong pace and making a statement in the opening stages of his race. Despite paying the price for his burning opening 200m, his aggressive start laid down the challenge and embodied the spirit of fearless racing that defined Tiffin’s day.
Alexander K then continued his campaign dominating the 200m, where his power, form, and control made him untouchable, driving to the line in what looked like a comfortable and controlled race. In addition, Akaran N and Omer T from Year 13 along with the late addition of Dylan L all put on a show of strength and speed, surging down the curve and onto the straight with commanding form. Whilst the finish tested the limits of their endurance, both made it across the line in one piece with good times to show for it.
The 800m saw Joshua A run two even laps showing maturity and good pace judgement. Haruki N seemed to be in fine fluid form on the occasions that he was looking up and forward at the race. Cathal L showed great tactical acumen to place 2nd in the strong field. Pancho P set off at his usual breakneck speed and after dealing with the tussle for the lead, he blitzed through 200m in 27 seconds, a little on the fast side. The bell time of 58 seconds was around what he wished, and though slightly overcooked on the first 200m, he was set fair for his assault on the 2-minute barrier. His form remained for 395m of the last lap and a time of just over 2 minutes was a great PB and opener for the season.
Finally, to close this exciting excursion was the 4x100m. Tiffin fielded two teams highlighting the engagement and excitement that the team brought to the day. Ultimately, the team was composed of first-half Alexander K and Omer T, who performed strongly with two openings of stellar legs, which helped drive Tiffin into strong contention. After Kobey T’s third leg, the team was brought up to narrowly trailing the leaders and despite Josh C’s best efforts narrowly missed the win. However, from start to finish, the energy, execution, and heart shown by the Tiffin team were on another level.
It was a great day for Tiffin athletics, with multiple personal bests broken or set and a strong all-around showing from the girls. Especially well done to Rowan N and Elena K.
Overall, it was a defining moment for Tiffin Senior Athletics, one that sets a new standard for future teams to aspire to.
