On Monday October 21st , the Main Hall buzzed with excitement as students and staff gathered in the Main hall for the House Dance finals. The competition featured three categories: Set Piece (‘Smooth Criminal’ , Michael Jackson), Free Piece (where any music or style could be used), and Solo/ duo category. The judges this year were: Mrs O’Connell, Mr Moody and Mrs Cadogan.

Following the heats, the competitors Livingstone (L), Drake (D), Scott (S), Raleigh (R), Darwin Wilberforce (DW), and Kingsley Montgomery (KM) advanced in the Set Dance category. In the Free Piece, both Churchill-Gordon (CG) and Raleigh (R) distinguished themselves with exceptional performances. Additionally, KM and D each had soloists who advanced to the finals of the competition: Daniel, Pasindu and Alice, respectively.

In the Set Piece category, the variety and creativity demonstrated in all choreographies and performances were imaginative, skilfully executed, and truly impressive. Ultimately, Kingsley Montgomery (KM) secured first place in the Set Piece, with Drake (D) and Livingstone (L) finishing in second and third place, respectively, on the podium.

In the Free Piece category, both Drake (D) and Churchill-Gordon (CG) delivered well-structured performances characterised by imaginative and skilfully executed actions and nuances. Each group showcased clear, precise, and purposeful presentations, reflecting careful planning and thorough rehearsal of their choreographies. Ultimately, Drake secured first place in the Free Piece, with Churchill-Gordon finishing a close second.

This year’s Solos category was highly competitive, featuring the exceptionally talented street dancers Daniel and Pasindu (video recording) and the remarkable tap dancer Alice, who was making her debut in House Dance. While Daniel delivered an outstanding live performance, Alice’s tapping routine captivated the judges and left a lasting impression.

In the end, Drake secured the House Dance title for the first time, achieving victory in both the Set Piece and Solo categories, with Darwin Wilberforce (DW) finishing in second place and Kingsley Montgomery (KM) in third.

Congratulations to all the dancers, choreographers, house captains, and the heads of houses for their exceptional efforts.
