Space Design
On Saturday 12th October, seven Tiffin students represented the school at the UK Space Design Competition, taking place over 12 hours at Dentons.  Students were assigned to a mock company and asked to design a bid for a theoretical colony in space.

The colony we designed was a manufacturing plant on Mars named Boscom.  At the start of the competition, we were given the instructions that outlined all the requirements our design needed to fulfil; Boscom served the purpose of being a small mining facility with a population of less than 200 staff.

At the end of the day, ourselves and the other teams formed from 250 fellow competitors, presented our proposal to the judges. After a tense wait, it was announced that we were victorious!  We are now invited to the national competition held in March 2025, which lasts 36 hours and we’re all very excited to take part in.

We would like to give enormous thanks to Ms Bickerstaff and Mr Murray who kindly gave up their Saturday to accompany us to London, enabling us to compete.

“It was a really interesting experience; meeting with other students and understanding teamwork was a great glimpse into the workplace and was a great inspiration for me.  Our team was very forward-thinking and we all worked to our strengths.” – Alexander

“I found it such a wonderful opportunity, not only to design something on my own, but to also work as a team to create a cohesive proposal whilst managing differing ideas and strengths and weaknesses.  The free food was also brilliant, of course!” – Jack

“It was really nice to meet and work with so many people with so much enthusiasm and I found it really interesting to see how different people approached the task in so many creative ways.” – Milana
