Among the activities which formed Year 7 pupils’ ‘stop the clock’ day on Thursday 4th June were four music workshops featuring traditional music from around the world. From Indonesia pupils played the metallophones of the huge and decorative gamelan, from West Africa the djembe drums, from India the dhols, and from Brazil the varied percussion instruments featured in samba batucada. The opportunity to learn to play these styles as an ensemble, and consider the similarities and differences between them, were great advantages of the day. Thanks go to the brilliant team of Mike, Mohammed, Jacob and Fred from Inspire-works for helping Year 7 pupils to learn to make so much music in just one day.
