48 Year 8 Tiffinians enjoyed a memorable long weekend in the Bay of Naples, exploring the extraordinary remains of the ancient Roman world. Highlights included visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as the Villa Regina at Boscoreale, a beautifully preserved Roman vineyard and farm with a fascinating museum.
The weather was rather less kind to us this year, with torrential rain and spectacular electrical storms! Sadly, conditions meant that our planned hike up Vesuvius had to be cancelled. Nevertheless, Pompeii was as spectacular as ever, even in the pouring rain, and it was fascinating to see first-hand just how effective the ancient Romans’ drainage systems, raised pavements and stepping stones were!
Despite the weather, spirits remained high, helped along by plenty of pizza, pasta and gelato. My thanks go to the students for their enthusiasm, curiosity and energy throughout the trip, and to my colleagues Mr Marley, Mrs Cadogan, Miss Boland and Miss Stewart who accompanied us and helped make the weekend such a success.
