King’s Cup Wimbledon
On 7th October, the Tiffin cross country team competed in the King’s Cup in Wimbledon, with Maya G, Mia W and Janani V representing the girls’ team.
The girls’ race covered a challenging 7km course in difficult conditions, with persistent rain leaving the ground wet and testing the runners throughout. A particularly steep hill added to the challenge, requiring both physical endurance and mental determination as the race progressed.
Despite the demanding conditions, the girls persevered, maintaining a strong effort throughout the race and pushing through the toughest sections of the course. Their determination paid off as they secured an impressive 4th-place finish.
This was a landmark achievement for Tiffin, marking the best-ever result for a Tiffin girls’ team at the King’s Cup and setting a new school record. The result reflects the girls’ resilience, commitment and determination in challenging conditions.
The boys also put in a strong team performance, with the six-member squad of Fredric B, Max J, Sangyoon L, Joel P, Matthew S and James C securing an excellent 7th-place finish. There was great running from all six boys, who worked hard throughout the demanding course. Fredric and Max led the way for the team with particularly strong performances, helping Tiffin achieve a very respectable result in a competitive field.
Congratulations to all the runners for their efforts and determination in difficult conditions. Both teams represented Tiffin superbly, with the girls making school history and the boys producing an impressive result of their own.
English Schools Surrey Cup
A top team delivering an outstanding squad performance!
Dylan K proved his long-course credentials, powering his way to a superb top-third finish. Adrian C built on his excellent performance at Skinners with a delightful second-lap surge through the field. A key scorer for the team, he is clearly developing into a quality athlete.
Stealth mode was once again the order of the day for Frederic B, who secured a well-judged seventh place. His ability to distribute his effort evenly and maintain a strong pace throughout is becoming an increasingly valuable strength.
Anas B was also recognised as one of the outstanding performers of the day, giving everything in his bid to win this first-class event. He finished ahead of a fast-finishing Max J, who pushed him all the way.
The Intermediate team has qualified for the South East Final with the most convincing first-round score we have ever achieved in this competition.
Well done to every athlete, all of whom gave their very best. You cannot ask any more of a team than that. Beyond their individual performances, every athlete contributed to the strength of the squad in numerous other ways, supporting teammates and helping to create a truly outstanding team effort.
A fantastic result and one that everyone involved should be immensely proud of!
The Senior Run Club Steps Up
Following their successful outing at the Kings Trophy, the Senior Run Club faced a significant step up in quality. The Surrey round of the Cup is widely regarded as the toughest in the country, making the performances all the more impressive.
The ladies’ team finished an excellent 5th, despite facing even stronger opposition. Nobody was found wanting, with every athlete rising to the challenge. Maya G led the team superbly, finishing in the top half of the field. Natalia S produced a fabulous debut, finishing just one place behind Maya G. Another star performance came from Mia W, whose determined run completed a strong team showing.
The men also stepped up to the challenge. Super-sub Breaden F rounded off the team with a battling performance, while Matthew S looked even stronger than last week. Zac H returned to the fold to good effect, producing an excellent captain’s run. Thomas W put in some valuable work over the longer distance to finish in the top half-dozen.
A strong showing from both teams against formidable opposition.
The Junior Team Make Their Mark
The Junior team more than held its own against top-flight opposition, finishing an excellent 5th out of 20 schools. The team showed huge potential, despite being slightly unfortunate in how the race unfolded.
With some of the squad’s strongest performers not quite at full fitness, the team battled admirably throughout. A hectic start led to several trips and falls, which disrupted their progress. However, the athletes regrouped, regained their composure and surged strongly through the field.
Joshua H finished in the top half of the field, with Arthur E placing further up. A Evans also looked strong, finishing in the top quarter. A particular mention goes to Angus F, who was the second Year 7 athlete home in 8th place, competing against a field made up predominantly of Year 8 runners.
The future looks bright for this squad, and the team is shaping up well for the Borough Championships early next term.
