Tiffin Sport Round-Up: Week Commencing 5 October

It has been a packed, high-energy midweek and weekend of fixtures to close out the first half-term. From domestic cup drama and local derby battles to unforgettable touring memories in the West Country, our athletes have given their absolute all.

Rugby

National Vase Glory

  • 1st XV vs Eltham College (Won 22–19): The 1st XV finished the first half-term superbly, securing a thrilling Round 2 victory in the National Vase. Despite losing Adam to an early injury, the team rallied magnificently. Outstanding performances from Ethan F, Josh, and Tife got the season right back on track, heading into the break with an impressive record of 5 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

Tour Joys: Bristol & Bath

  • The U14 and U15 squads enjoyed a fantastic development tour to the West Country. Highlights included a privilege visit to the Bristol Bears’ state-of-the-art training facility.
  • Across competitive fixtures against KES Bath and Downside School, both Tiffin touring teams came away with one win and one loss. Most importantly, the squads bonded brilliantly—crucial preparation as these players look ahead to playing senior rugby together in the near future.

Midweek Cups & Festivals

  • U14 Cup: The cup run came to an end at John Fisher. It was a brave, fighting performance from the boys, with a special mention to Luca for an outstanding display.
  • U12 Festival Success: A stellar day out for the U12s, who swept the festival with 4 wins from 4 games against Emanuel, Hampton, Richard Challoner, and KCS Wimbledon. Austin and Luca led the charge with great individual performances.
  • U15A Cup: A tough knockout loss against Ibstock, despite a spirited effort.

Block Fixtures vs London Oratory

  • It was a challenging, weather-restricted block against London Oratory. On Friday, the U12A and U12B teams mounted strong second-half comebacks but couldn’t quite get over the line.
  • It was a similar story of narrow margins on Saturday, with hard-fought losses for the 1st XV, 2nd XV, and the U16B (the latter featuring a standout performance from Vincent).

Other Midweek Results

  • U13B & U13C: Fantastic mid-week success with victories over Wilson’s and Caterham.
  • 3rd XV: A tough, competitive loss against Reed’s.

The final rugby Weekend……..

Sport until the bitter end of the half term! The 1stXV Girls rugby team have been invited to the inaugural girls St Joseph’s College National Rugby Tournament. St ‘Jo’s’ has been an elite boys rugby tournament for 40 years, attended by the country’s best rugby schools. Tiffin are now part of the first year of the girls’ competition which is a testament to the quality of the girls rugby programme at Tiffin led by Head of Girls Rugby Mr Brown, Miss Boland and Head of Girls Sport Miss Passco. The team will travel up to Ipswich on Thursday and return Saturday evening. We wish the girls luck and will report on their performances at the tournament, after half term.

Netball

After the frustration of last week’s washouts, the girls’ netball teams wrapped up a highly successful half-term in dominant fashion.

  • 1st VII & 2nd VII: Both teams secured excellent, hard-earned victories against Nonsuch.
  • 3rd VII: Suffered a very narrow, fiercely contested loss in their fixture.

A successful first half-term for our netball squad! We managed to field 4 teams for the first time; our A&B teams are unbeaten, and 194 goals have been scored in competitive play.

A special thank you this week goes to Tasia, who kindly swapped ends of the court in our Nonsuch fixture to GS. Audry and Sienna worked incredibly hard to bring their teams the win.

A massive thank you goes out to our new captaincy team; Stella, Jess and Zoe for all of their leadership!

Badminton

  • A superb week on the courts! Tiffin clinched brilliant team victories against both Christ’s Hospital and Hampton. Pranav earned player of the week honours for a masterful individual performance.

Well done to all the students, coaches, and travelling supporters for a fantastic first half of the autumn term! Enjoy the well-deserved rest.
