Here is the full breakdown of an incredibly action-packed, eventful week of Tiffin sport:
Rugby Union: Mixed Fortunes in Brutal Battles
The boys faced a massive week of fixtures, highlighted by a historic block fixture against Wimbledon College and dominant displays from the lower school.
- 1st XV Resurgence: The seniors got their week off to a flyer, getting back on track with a dominant 36–7 victory over COLFEs in the National Vase Round 1. Shay, Seni, Ocean, Ariel, and Lucas all put in stellar performances on their debuts, backed up by clinical kicking from Josh. High on confidence, they went into Saturday looking to beat Wimbledon College for the first time in 13 years. After leading 10–0 in a brutally attritional match, they suffered late heartbreak—College slotted a dramatic, last-play penalty to secure an agonizing draw.
- 2nd & 3rd XV: The 2nd XV endured a bizarre match structure against Wimbledon College, playing a grueling 50-minute first half followed by a 30-minute second half, ultimately falling to a narrow loss. Meanwhile, the 3rd XV opened their season in style, running out comfortable winners against Wilson’s 1st XV.
- Junior Age Groups (U16–U14):
- U16s: The A’s fought out another attritional draw on a postage-stamp-sized pitch, while the B’s narrowly missed out, losing a tight one by just 2 points.
- U15s: The A’s suffered a tough defeat after leading 14–12 at halftime. The B’s went down valiantly in a 59–38 “try-fest” where defence was entirely optional, though Simon stole the show with an incredible 5 tries.
- U14s: The undisputed team of the hour. They continued their clinical, ruthless form by completely dominating Wimbledon College in both the A and B matches. Their season tally now stands at a staggering 161 points scored and just 15 conceded.
- Mini but Mighty Rugbeians (U13–U12):
- U13s: The A’s lost a tight battle, but the B’s won a 40–25 thriller. Ruan was the star player of the day, while Michael crossed the line for a superb 4 tries.
- U12s: A historic milestone as over 50 boys represented Tiffin across 4 teams for their first-ever Saturday school fixtures! The A’s and B’s marked the occasion with fantastic wins, while the C’s and D’s played out highly competitive matches.
Netball: History Made at St Benedict’s
Perivale Lane is notoriously one of the toughest, most intimidating away venues on the circuit—known for its gloomy atmosphere even in the middle of a heatwave. The Tiffin Girls’ Netball team ignored the history books entirely.
For the first time in school history, Tiffin took four teams to ‘Bennies’ and pulled off a stunning, unprecedented 4–0 clean sweep:
- 1st VII: Held their nerve in a breathless, nail-biting 27–25 win.
- 2nd VII: Put on an attacking masterclass to win 41–32.
- 3rd VII: Ground out a gritty, defensive 10–8 victory.
- 4th VII: Marched to a thoroughly convincing, dominant win.
Standout performers came from Mausam and Chloe for defence, Sienna and Audrey for attack and Henrietta and Abby for their mid court wizadry
