It was another exceptional week for Tiffin’s musicians, with members of the Tiffin Boys’ Choir and Tiffin Girls’ Choir performing Benjamin Britten’s monumental War Requiem at the Royal Festival Hall.
Under the direction of James Day, our singers joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Choir and London Symphony Chorus for this extraordinary work, conducted by Edward Gardner. Britten’s War Requiem is one of the most powerful large-scale choral works of the twentieth century, bringing together the traditional Latin Requiem with the moving poetry of First World War poet Wilfred Owen.
The scale of the performance was immense, requiring three choirs, two orchestras and three internationally renowned soloists, and it was a remarkable opportunity for our students to perform alongside some of the country’s finest professional musicians and singers on one of London’s great concert stages.
The performance received an outstanding reception, with the audience held in silence at its conclusion before responding with thunderous applause. Experiences of this calibre demonstrate the extraordinary opportunities available to Tiffin students and the remarkable standard of our choral tradition.
Huge congratulations to all the students involved and, in particular, to James Day and the Music Department for their continued dedication in making opportunities such as this possible.
