Rugby Union: Clinical Displays Across the Year Groups
Senior Teams
- 1st XV Grind Out Victory: The Tiffin 1st XV travelled to Staines RFC to face Halliford in a scrappy, bitty affair. Despite the stop-start nature of the match, the boys dug deep to secure a 29–5 win, marking their second victory of the season. Key performances from Chris and Ethan, alongside a stellar man-of-the-match display from Yichen, secured the win. The fixtures come thick and fast now and the 1stXV played again on Wednesday against Gordons School 1stXV (non ACE side). They won their third game from three at a canter scoring 39 points to Gordon’s 5. Defence is proving a real strength of this team but it will be thoroughly tested against a strong Emanuel side this Saturday before round one of the vase next Wednesday against COLFEs. Watch this space.
- 2nd XV Narrowly Denied: The 2nd XV came up just short against a tough Claremont 1st XV. Despite the narrow loss, Nyill played exceptionally well, earning himself a well-deserved call-up to the 1st XV squad.
Intermediate & Junior Squads
- U16s Hold the Line: The U16 squad continued their strong form at Fortress Grists, putting on a defensive masterclass to win to nil against Halliford.
- U15s Fight to the Finish: The U15A team showed incredible resilience, fighting back from a tough first half to completely dominate and win the second half. Finlay Griggs stepped up to fly-half and ran the show with absolute aplomb. The U15B team narrowly missed out, with an extremely difficult, last-minute conversion attempt proving to be the agonizing difference.
- ‘Highly Coachable’ U14s Shine: Under the guidance of Mr Baker, the U14 As and Bs put on a clinical attacking display. The two squads scored a combined 75 points while conceding only 10.
Lower School
- Performance of the Weekend for U13As: The U13A team is rapidly turning into a serious outfit. They blew Halliford away in a spectacular 45–0 victory, with Arthur and Alexandre pulling the strings in the backline with maturity far beyond their playing age. The U13B team will look to replicate this success when they play their rescheduled fixture on Tuesday.
- Dream Debuts for the U12s: The U12 A, B, and C teams got their very first taste of representing Tiffin School, completing a clean sweep. The A team won 40–15, the B team won 15–10, and the C team won 10–0. Special mentions go to Mason and Ishaan for their highly impressive school debuts.
Netball & Girls’ Sport: Record Numbers & Court Domination
While the rugby teams dominated on the fields, Tiffin’s non-rugby sports launched their autumn campaigns with equal brilliance, highlighted by historic turnout numbers and masterclasses on the netball courts.
- Netball Domination Against Richmond Park: Tiffin Netball opened the season in spectacular fashion last Wednesday, fielding their top two sides against Richmond Park Academy. The 1st VII powered to a remarkable 50–16 victory, while the 2nd VII secured a clinical 26–6 win. With record-breaking attendance at training, Tiffin is on track to field a 4th VII for the first time in school history.
- Girls’ Rugby Building Momentum: The Girls’ Rugby XV head to Fortress Grists for their first pitch session this week. Mr Brown is already confident that this squad will surpass last year’s historic standards, with exciting new recruits adding depth to the seasoned experience of key players like Bella, Salma, and Leah.
- Girls’ Football Early Birds: Pre-season is officially underway for Girls’ Football. Dedicated squads are already hitting the ground running in early-morning, before-school training sessions under the guidance of Mr White.
Rowing: Numbers Soar on the River
- Rowing Popularity Surges: The Tiffin Rowing Club continues to see its numbers increase week on week. Attendance on the water is at an all-time high, with strong, growing contingents from both the boys’ and girls’ schools showing great commitment.
