On Thursday evening, a group of twenty-five students enjoyed an unforgettable cultural trip to the National Theatre to see Electra/Persona. Directed by Benedict Andrews and starring Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss, this extraordinary production brilliantly fuses Sophocles’ classical Greek tragedy with Ingmar Bergman’s psychological masterpiece. For our students, witnessing such a powerful production brought the enduring themes of ancient drama and human resilience vividly to life. It was a deeply enriching evening that sparked wonderful discussions among the group, and we are immensely proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our students were throughout.
Indira, Y12: I really enjoyed Electra/Persona. Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss truly depicted two sides of the same coin, perfectly balanced with internal good and evil, representing the true human experience. Persona was very much a contrast to the first half, Electra. It was refreshingly jarring and revealing. I thoroughly recommend it to everyone!
Tudor, Y12: To me, Electra/Persona was a play about identity: characters which exist only by being watched, and characters which exist only when watched by no one. I was struck by the exploration of how this constant need to play a character happens on so many levels, including on us as the audience.
