Summer Term 5
A wet first week back after half term meant that our scheduled Saturday block fixtures and tennis matches fell victim to the weather. Despite this, there was still plenty of competitive action, with cup fixtures for the U14s, U15s and U17s ensuring an encouraging return to sport.
In the U17 Plate, Tiffin travelled to Trinity School on Friday afternoon. A youthful side featuring a number of U15 players competing above their age group faced a strong opponent and, while the result did not go Tiffin’s way, there were many positive lessons to take from the experience. Captain Ayush led from the front with an excellent 45, but Tiffin were eventually bowled out for 97. Trinity chased the target successfully, although the match provided valuable experience that will undoubtedly benefit the squad as the season progresses.
The U15s continued their impressive cup run by progressing comfortably to the next round with victory over Wallington County Grammar School. After being put in to bat, Tiffin found themselves under pressure at 70–6 before a crucial partnership between Nandan (56)* and Cooper (20)* transformed the innings. Their stand of more than 60 runs helped the side recover strongly and post a competitive total. The bowlers and fielders then took control. Wallington were reduced to 36–3 after 12 overs and never recovered, as Tiffin delivered an excellent all-round performance in the field to secure a convincing victory and a place in Finals day of the Stokes-Knight Cup .
The U14s maintained their outstanding form with another dominant display in the cup against Emanuel School. A superb bowling and fielding performance restricted Emanuel to just 67, with Atharv producing exceptional figures of 3–6 and Avyan claiming a remarkable 5–12. In reply, Tiffin made light work of the chase, winning by 10 wickets. Armaan was particularly impressive, scoring a rapid and unbeaten 51 to complete another excellent victory for a side that continues to go from strength to strength.
Despite the challenging weather, it was a successful week for our cup teams, with the U14s and U15s progressing in impressive fashion and the U17s gaining valuable experience that will serve them well for the remainder of the season.
