Drama and Music students recently enjoyed a fantastic cross-curricular theatre trip to see Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre in London. This was the first time the trip brought together both GCSE Drama and GCSE Music students, with 84 students attending the evening performance.
The award-winning musical comedy offered students a valuable opportunity to experience professional theatre-making at its most energetic and inventive. Drama students were able to consider acting, staging, ensemble performance, characterisation and comedy in preparation for their live theatre evaluation work, while Music students explored how musical storytelling, composition and performance can shape narrative and audience response.
Based on the extraordinary true story of the Second World War deception operation that helped disguise the Allied invasion of Sicily, Operation Mincemeat combines history, humour, music and theatrical flair. Students responded with great enthusiasm to the production’s pace, wit and creativity, and it was wonderful to see them engaging so positively with a live West End performance.
It was a memorable evening and a valuable opportunity for students to see how Drama and Music work together to create exciting, ambitious and highly entertaining theatre.
