Before half term, Year 10 students took part in the German Exchange to Neuwied, a fantastic opportunity to experience German culture first-hand and immerse themselves in family life abroad. One student, Brahman K, reflects on his experience and explains why he would encourage future students to take part in the exchange.
“The German Exchange is a really exciting trip and I would definitely recommend current KS3 students doing German to go on it. Hosting an exchange student was a slightly worrying idea at first I will admit, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my exchange partner, as well as showing them around London and comparing differences in our daily lives. All the students were really nice and it was a shame to see them leave after a week but everyone was quite excited to see them when we went to Germany.

Not only is the trip well organised, but going and living with a German student for a week is slightly daunting but heavily rewarding. As well as improving my German, I was able to experience the life of a 15 year old living in Germany, major aspects being food, games and school. The small day trips we went with Tiffin were also interesting, my personal favourites being the escape room, going up Köln Cathedral, and of course the Haribo Store. The exchange is different because each experience is personal, and everyone gets to see German culture and experience the lives of their partners.
So if the next year 10s get the opportunity to go on the exchange, I would highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!
