In the Easter Holiday some of the School’s senior rowers went on training camp in Figueira da Foz in Portugal in the run up to May’s National events.
Day 1 started with a monsoon conditions and sheet lightning whilst up the far end of the course on our first run. After we returned somewhat drenched, we retreated to our accommodation knowing that our loved ones were sending messages of just how sunny it was back in London. Day 2 the weather improved (slightly ) and we got to do some mileage on Portugal’s National rowing lake. Day 3 and the sun came out and the rowers couldn’t get enough rowing done, three sessions a day, racking up countless kilometres on the lake they put in technical drills, did lots of race practice, and set the tone for the upcoming months of racing.
It was an opportunity to give and receive more small group coaching for our senior quad who rate in the UK’s top 10, and for our aspiring other athletes who are improving each year.
My thanks to both athletes and coaches for overcoming day 1, and for creating such a positive and productive environment in our first camp in over 10 years. We have already started planning next year’s !
