On Wednesday 25th March, Year 12 and 13 English students travelled to central London to see Cynthia Erivo star in a one-woman production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula at the Noël Coward Theatre. Over the course of a two hour performance, Erivo adopted a variety of costumes, wigs and accents to play no fewer than eleven characters, even appearing alongside multiple versions of herself thanks to the use of cameras and screens in an innovative blend of theatre and live cinema.

Having studied Dracula as part of their unit on Gothic fiction, our students were struck by the ways in which director Kip Williams adapted and amended Bram Stoker’s novel, in particular the production’s emphasis on themes such as race, gender and sexuality.

I would like to thank Miss Kitchin, Miss Passco and Miss Langton for giving up their time to accompany our students on such an enriching trip.
