To kick start the senior Cross Country season, 16 Tiffin athletes competed in the King’s Trophy at Wimbledon Common with hope in their eyes. The competition was tough with over 150 participants in the arduous 7km loop, with the unrelenting incline to the finish line striking fear into even the most seasoned competitors.
The race began with a crush through a narrow passage way, with Luke (Y13) showing his renowned opening speed, before a long straight to the first of the dreaded hills. Pancho (Y13) started out hard, leading the pack, but the challenging terrain added some uncertainty into the race after the end of the track season. Nonetheless, he comfortably secured the victory, becoming only the 3rd ever Tiffinian to do so in this legendary fixture.
Following shortly behind, Cathal (Y13) and Thomas (Y11) fought hard for 7th and 8th respectively whilst Marcus, star new recruit James and Haruki completed our scoring giving the male team 2nd place overall in a very competitive field.
Despite tough competition, the outstanding determination of Laila, Neve, Maya, and Elena led to another school record broken by the girls! The team came an incredible top 4 at the King’s Trophy after conquering the very hilly tracks in the first half of the race.
The combination of entries and successes makes it the best ever Tiffin result in the race and looks set to be another record breaking season.
Great thanks also to Erik B for being an inspiring coach as always to the whole team and leading us to our best performance yet and all those who debuted today.
