On Thursday 1st May, Tiffin alumnus, Ciaran Thapar, returned to speak to our Year 11 students during their PSHE lesson. He shared insights into his career journey, spanning journalism and social work, and spoke passionately about the importance of youth engagement and social impact. His aim was to inspire students to take an interest in these fields or to begin thinking about how they can make a positive difference in their communities.
He also presented a copy of his book to the LRC. The book is called, ‘Cut Short – Your Violence, Loss and Hope in the City’. It tells the story of Ciaran’s work as an access project worker, a school mentor, and a community and prison youth worker, as well as the work he has been doing ostensibly about knife crime and young black people in London.
To say his speech was credible, relatable, and powerful would be an understatement.
