Summer 2024’s Under 14 squad completed their season with 10 wins, 2 defeats and one abandonment. Only two Tiffin Under 14 teams have ever won more matches, one of them boasting both a future England captain, and a county championship winner, the other also losing six times. Omkar S’s side, moreover, were missing a number of influential players in the defeats by St. Paul’s and KCS.

Ranveer D topped 300 runs, including 3 fifties, with the captain close behind him, top score 93 not out, averaging 48.5, and the two took 31 wickets with quality leg spin. Opener Josh S, Ryan K and Shriyans M also scored well over a hundred runs, while the latter kept wicket superbly, removed 14 opponents, and proved the best on the circuit. He alone was ever present (except at practices). Abir B exuded aggression with bat and ball, Shiv M was always a lively presence, and in the remarkable Ishaan P we possessed a fearsome strike bowler. Matthias P (8), Niyamat T (6) and Anesh L provided the support bowling led by Faran A (11 wickets).

The side were fortunate to be able to call upon reserves Samvrit S, Pranav I and Nishkarsh J, and ALL those mentioned above should go on to success.

Providing the nostalgia of the future will be Josh’s 6 at Emanuel, Shiv’s second catch at KGS, and Matthias’s on the boundary to oust the KCS star; Faran’s 3 catches and Matthias’s 2 direct hit run outs at Wilson’s; Ishaan’s opening over at Wallington (a hat-trick of bowled off stumps, finishing with the previous week’s centurion); 44 opponents scoring 0; the ornithologically challenged members, one of whom mistook a seagull for a pigeon, the other, when asked by me “What was that?” (a swallow) answering hesitantly, “A bird?”; and substitute Aditya S’s effort at Halliford, flooring our captain with a ‘no arms’ tackle before holding the catch to win the match.

Congratulations, and thanks, gentlemen.
