The Concert Band and Jazz Combo featured once again this year in the Friends of Canbury Gardens Concert Series, which presents local bands at 3pm every Sunday from May to September on the Canbury Park bandstand, situated in its picturesque spot on the banks of the Thames, just beside the school boathouse. The three fifteen-minute sets performed by each band were an impressive tour of the music they have prepared over the course of the academic year, featuring collections by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and George Gershwin among others from the Concert Band, and songs ranging from standards to soul from the Jazz Combo. The audience included not only parents but also regular supporters of the bandstand series, along with passers-by drawn in by the bands’ toe tapping tunes.
