Following their impressive performances of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony in May, for the second time this season Tiffin Boys’ Choir members were invited to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra at their home, the Barbican concert hall. Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana was the work at the centre of the programme, a piece equally familiar to us through film and radio as the concert hall, with its memorable melodies and mass appeal. The knabenchor, the role played in this performance by Tiffin pupils, sing many of these totemic tunes, requiring a gutsy chant-like sound which came so naturally and brilliantly to our choir of trebles. The programme was performed to two sell out audiences on Sunday and Tuesday 23rd and 25th June, providing the grand finale to the LSO’s summer season 2024. As always, it was a privilege for the pupils to sing alongside, hear and see the London Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Chorus and internationally acclaimed soloists at close quarters, led by multi-award-winning conductor Gianandrea Noseda.
