Open Concert

The final Open Concert of the academic year, belonging to a series of half-termly concerts welcoming student-led music performances of all kinds, featured three school ensembles alongside the impressive students’-choice entries. The School’s String Chamber Ensemble opened the concert with the fourth movement of Haydn’s Quartet in G Op.76. The especially ambitious and impressive piano solos which then followed included Etude No.5, Polonaise in Gm, Ballade No. 3 and Nocturne in Cm by Chopin, alongside Chris Norton’s New Kid, performed by Joseph (8RXH), Kai (10GS), George (13LY), Dylan (12LMO) and Eric (9SE) respectively, complemented by Beethoven’s Ich Liebe Dich sung by Kangmin (10GA). An interlude to the piano solos was provided by the duet of Hansen and Kai (10GA) performing the slow movement of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, adapted creatively for Oboe and Violin. The concert concluded with two lively and contrasting performances. First the opening of Mozart’s Oboe Concerto played by members of the Chamber Orchestra with Hansen (10GA) performing the virtuosic solo part. Then finally the School Rock Band with bluesy covers of Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry and the Beatles’ With A Little Help From My Friends.
