ICT

The Tiffin ICT department aims to not only to equip students with the necessary and essential ICT skills needed in today s world but also to understand when, where, why and how these skills can be implemented appropriately and effectively.
Pupils are taught in dedicated ICT suites and every pupil has access to their own school e-mail address and work area which they are expected to take responsibility for. All pupils have remote access to both their school work area and school e-mail from home. Pupils have access to over 60 computers in the LRC before school, at lunchtime and after school.

Key Stage 3
Pupils have one lesson a fortnight throughout Key Stage 3, during this time pupils follow the KS3 National Strategy for ICT. Some of the topics covered are Using ICT, Using Data and Information Sources, Introduction to Modelling and Presenting Numeric Data, Multimedia, e-Safety, Making a Leaflet and Data Handling.

Key Stage 4
Pupils in Key Stage 4 all work towards gaining the European Computer Driving Licence (EDCL). The ECDL is pan-European skills based ICT qualification which includes the following modules: Basic Concepts of Information Technology; Using the Computer and Managing Files; Word Processing; Spreadsheets and Databases.

Key Stage 5
Pupils who do not already hold an ICT qualification work towards their ECDL (see Key Stage 4 for more information). They are required to dedicate one period a week of their private study time towards this and are expected to complete the qualification within 12 months.

Other information
ICT is embedded in all subjects and at all key stages across the school. Students are given opportunities to apply their knowledge in appropriate situations in preparation for when they have left the school.
