A Message of Welcome
Whether you are a prospective student or parent, an existing member of the Tiffin community or an Old Tiffinian, we hope that you will easily find the information you require on this site.
Founded in 1880 and supported by funds from the seventeenth century Tiffin Foundation, the school has long provided education for the local community. Today we are a state maintained grammar school for boys and a performing arts college with intakes at 11+ as well as entry into the Sixth Form.
Our last OfSTED (November 2007) recognised the school's excellence by grading us as outstanding in every category and describing us as an exceptional performing arts college that provides its students with an outstanding quality of education. The school's vision, a leading creative community; an enduring love of learning underpins all our work. While we are proud of our proven record of academic success, we believe that it arises through instilling a real enjoyment in learning through creativity and challenge. Our vision for the school is supported through five aims and these will tell you a little more about our philosophy.
Firstly, we are committed to building and extending our students social and moral development through providing opportunities to care for each other, contribute to each other's success and lead the community. We are particularly proud of the regular, magnificent contribution the student body makes through decision-making, comments upon teaching quality and charity appeals.

We are particularly proud of the regular, magnificent contribution the student body makes through decision-making, comments upon teaching quality and charity appeals.
Secondly, each student aims for the highest possible academic achievement. As a boys school we design our curriculum and our approach to learning around what is most appropriate for boys needs. In 2008 The Times School League Table rates us as the second best boys’ school in the country for GCSE and fifth best for A Level. Nearly all our students go on to leading universities, including over 20 regularly to Oxbridge.
Then, we ensure that each student has access to the widest opportunities to achieve. These opportunities include music, sport, dance, drama, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, outdoor pursuits, community service and many other clubs and societies. Our strong House system, busy performance schedule and one of the country s biggest state school sports programmes mean that all students have the opportunity to represent their House and school at a variety of levels.
Next, we believe that our whole community students, staff and parents should be prepared for a lifetime of learning. The Learning Resources Centre and Judge Lecture Theatre provide an outstanding opportunity for independent learning, providing a sound foundation for the world beyond the school gates.
Finally, we are wholly committed to innovative and cutting edge approaches to learning. While we are proud of previous successes we are constantly challenging our own practice to improve, find creative ways of learning and asking: Can we do this in a better way?
Tiffin School is an essential part of its local community and the News and Events section will give you more information about what the school is doing and where it's happening.
This is a vibrant, dynamic learning community and I am proud to welcome you to our site.
