Introduction to Tiffin Performing Arts College![]() “An exceptional Performing Arts College (Ofsted, November 2007) Welcome to the pages about the Performing Arts at Tiffin. Importantly, there is no such thing as a separate “Performing Arts College within the school: the whole school is an Arts College, meaning that the levels of engagement in learning, partnership between students and staff, and quality of approach and aspiration that are found in Dance, Drama and Music, are found in all aspects of school life and beyond. The Arts are central to life at Tiffin, and innovative learning and teaching styles, together with imaginative cross-curricular projects, ensure that creativity and fun lie at the heart of the Tiffin experience. There are exceptional opportunities for involvement beyond lesson time in the Performing Arts, which you will find when you click on the links on the left-hand side, and there are separate websites for the Tiffin Boys Choir and the Thames Youth Orchestra. A vital aspect of our mission as a school is creating opportunities for all, regardless of whether they attend Tiffin, and a significant amount of our annual Arts College grant has gone towards the formation of the following groups. The Tiffin Children s Chorus is open to boys and girls from the age of eight, and members of the chorus sing and act in productions at the Royal Opera House; the Thames Youth Orchestra is one of the leading youth orchestras in South West London, performing at Cadogan Hall annually and with membership from over fifteen local schools; KAST, our Saturday Drama School, is open to young people aged between 6 and 16 looking to open their dramatic horizons; Riverside Opera is our resident opera company, whose phenomenal amateur chorus is open to anyone above the age of 16, subject to audition, working with leading professional singers, directors and conductors; and every Autumn our Oratorio Choir (of over 200 singers) is open to everyone. A key aspect of our work is developing the Performing Arts throughout the Royal Borough of Kingston. Our Performing Arts staff work, as part of their timetable, with our eighteen partner schools in the Borough during school time, and Tiffin students visit our partner schools regularly; in turn, all of our main productions have matinée performances for local schools. We have commissioned work from leading composers most recently Antony Pitts (A Still, Small Voice) for school choirs to perform together; and have undertaken important collaborative projects in Dance, with the Royal Ballet School and with Coombe Boys School. Future plans include developing a Scheme of Work for Singing from Key Stage 1 to 3. |
