Music Tiffin in the Garden

Music at Tiffin is nationally celebrated, with a full programme of wider opportunities, ranging from choirs and orchestras to rock groups and swing bands, allied to a vibrant approach to classroom music. Over 100 boys study music at GCSE and A/Level, and the majority of boys in the school play a musical instrument. A significan proportion of A/Level students proceed to read music at university, and several boys have gained choral scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge


Key Stage Three
Include: African Drumming, Opera, the Orchestra, Jazz and Blues, Reggae and Mozart.

Key Stage Four
Include: Programme Music, Ground Bass, the Symphony, Fusion, Serialism and Minimalism.

Key Stage Five
Include: Music for Large Ensemble and Sacred Vocal Music .

As well as classroom music lessons, a team of twenty peripatetic teachers gives individual and group instrumental lessons during the school day. A significant proportion of A/Level students proceed to read Music at university, and several boys have gained choral scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge.

Gig Night Band
Practical music-making is central to school life. All boys have the opportunity to take part in a musical ensemble, and over 30 concerts are presented during the year, with those involving singing (Tiffin Boys Choir), jazz (Tiffin Swing Band) and orchestral playing (Thames Youth Orchestra) taking place in London and on the professional national stage. Regular instrumental ensembles running at the school include the School Orchestra, Second Orchestra, Concert Band, Swing Band, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Group, Horn Quintet, Junior and Intermediate String groups, and Beginner Brass groups. The Oratorio Choir, of over 200 singers, performs a major oratorio with a professional orchestra every Autumn Term.Tffin Boys' Choir






Tiffin Boys Choir (http://www.tiffinboyschoir.com/) comprises several groups of singers, encompassing an SATB choir as well as a separate treble choir and close harmony group. The choir is internationally renowned and performs at many of the most prestigious venues in the UK and around the world – including regular work at the Royal Opera House and performances at the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican and annual overseas tours.





The Thames Youth Orchestra was founded at Tiffin and involves between 70 and 80 young musicians playing demanding orchestral repertoire in high-profile venues (http://www.thamesyouthorchestra.co.uk/).
