Lifetime of Learning
Introduction
OFSTED feedback identifies exceptional careers advice with a grade 1 (outstanding) in how well learners develop workplace and other skills that will contribute to their future economic well-being . Lifetime of Learning (careers in old currency!) is part of the strategic development of the school, aiming to assist it in achieving its aims, most notably in providing opportunities for all pupils to achieve their full potential and is concerned with preparing them for their roles as Lifelong Learners, be it in education or the world of work. To do this we plan a system of support and preparation for all pupils, developing an understanding of the world of learning and work, encouraging enrichment, liberation and enhancement of the curriculum to both stimulate and motivate pupils. This is seen at all Key Stages, delivered via the subject based curriculum, Social & Moral Development, and specific Lifetime of learning based sessions. We are pleased that this is recognised by parents; in the recent Independent school survey of parents and staff by Kirkland Rowell in February 2007 asking How well are learners guided and supported? the provision was perceived as outstanding by 76.1% of parents.
Key Stage 3
As you go into a new school it s worth considering where you are going. Tiffin should be seen as a journey towards future destination in terms of academic success, subject choices and university degree, and even your career beyond. Lifetime of Learning in Key Stage 3 ensures each pupil receives a personalised, coherent and planned series of progressive experiences which encourages them to think about their future in a fun but challenging way. It also requires all pupils to monitor and record their achievements, ensuring that the transitional needs of all are met. That includes in school activities in tutorial and subject classes, but also working with and visiting B.P. (with whom we have link status), visiting organisations running life skill games, and ‘Dragons Den’ style enterprise games.

Key Stage 4
Consolidating the experiences of Key stage 3, Lifetime of Learning in Key Stage 4 ensures each pupil is developing transferable skills that enhances pupils progression into Further &/or Higher Education. Again this is personalised for each pupil with tutor group input, Work Related Learning (WRL) activities in subject lessons, a well established Work Experience (WE) programme in Year 11, and a range of extension activities tailored to individual needs, all coordinated and monitored by the Lifetime of Learning team. Recording this in a WRL portfolio allows pupils to discuss their progress with appropriate members of the school community and all other relevant stakeholders, building on the links already established with the business community and other professional providers.

Key Stage 5
The focus now centres on application for Higher Education &/or entry into the world of work. Once more the key aspect is on the one-to-one guidance which enables us to personalise the learning experience of each pupil. Building on the successful practice in earlier years, tutor teams and individual subject areas are coordinated in the delivery of skills and extension opportunities which also include a school based two-day Higher Education Festival with visiting admission tutors from a range of top universities plus speakers from industry and commerce. We have visits to campus sites and a WE scheme to extend pupils desirability in UCAS applications. The success of our pupils in gaining access to their chosen course is outstanding and is the successful outcome of our well-established but permanently evolving programme.

Other information
Tiffin School achieved recognition as an Investor in Careers Organisation in March 2008. This further demonstrates that Lifetime of Learning within the school is central raising the aspirations on the part of all stakeholders (students, staff and parents), raising achievement amongst students, enhancing their reputation for future progression, ensuring a well organised and managed careers programme that will be accessible to all, and will benefit all students through a child centred support structure that allows each student to access their own planned future progression route to the best of their abilities.
The fact that we have a committed professional careers adviser permanently employed as the careers centre manager in a well equipped specialised suite of careers rooms offers the pupils a unique opportunity to gain high quality personalised advice to help them is a key strength of the school and its Lifetime of Learning provision.
