Independent  Study Sixth Form Study in Library

Pupils at Tiffin are required to spend half-an-hour a night reviewing their learning. This is so they get into good study habits for the GCSEs, A-levels and life after school.

Pupils should have a sheet of paper for each topic being studied. They should write the main points from each lesson onto this sheet. Then they should revisit this sheet the next day and the next week to test their recollection.

Every time they do this they strengthen the neural connections in their brain, improving their memory and removing the need to cram for exams. They will also make better connections with information being learned in class.

At weekends pupils are expected to summarise a recently completed topic of work using both creativity and logic.

Parents could spend five minutes with their son to ask him what he can remember from his independent study session. This will further improve his memory. Pupils bring in their independent study notes to school for their form tutors and classmates to compare and discuss.
