Economics
The departmental culture at Tiffin aims for a focussed and purposeful working ethos which encourages students to form their own opinions and present their viewpoint in a mature, logical way. The department uses a wide range of pedagogical methods and works to draw the potential out of each student. The department is very well resourced, having TV/video facilities, an electronic whiteboard, computers, and current textbooks. We regularly attend student conferences, invite speakers into the classroom and visit businesses.
Key Stage Five
Economics at Tiffin is a prestigious subject which requires high mathematics skills. It is closely related to subjects such as sociology, politics and international relations. To have a good grasp of how economies function, it also helps to be able to see economic problems in their historical context and how economic ideas have developed over time. For this reason Tiffin s Economists are required to read around the subject extensively from current papers and journals. We follow the Edexcel curriculum which involves macro and microeconomics, market failure, transport and development economics.
The AQA Business Studies course is, nationally, a fast growing subject, as it is relevant, varied and challenging. It provides a thorough grounding in sound business theory and practice and complements many other combinations of subjects. Significant numbers of our students go on at University to read business related degrees.
As well as the Economics and Business Studies curricula there will be a raft of extra opportunities available from public speaking competitions to stock broker challenges and trip to London s financial centres. During A2 you will concentrate on pre-empting the Bank of England and will set interest rates in its Target 2.0 Challenge.
The Ricardian - an online economics magazine published by the Tiffin School Economics students.
