Drama
Instrumental in attaining Tiffin's status as a Performing Arts College, and rated as excellent in the latest OFSTED inspection, the Drama Department is well established as a centre of excellence within the school. The study of Drama encourages group work, devising, enhances performance skills, develops an analytical ability and engages creative expression.
The teachers are energetic and committed to taking the department forward in new and exciting ways. Chris Victory is a former lecturer at the Wimbledon College of Art and has worked professionally as a Theatre Technician. Jack Stigner is the Artistic director for FoulPlay Productions and has worked in various venues around the country as a practitioner, producer and performer.
Over and above the core curriculum, we offer our students a broad range of opportunities to write, perform and produce. The department are committed to producing three shows a year, one each term. This year the Christmas production is WEST SIDE STORY, a collaborative effort between Dance, Music and Drama with Jack Stigner as the Artistic Director, starring students from both Tiffin Schools. Last years sixth form play, UBU ROI, was a huge success with sell out performances and a performance at the Rose Theatre in July as part of the International Youth Arts Festival. In the summer term, students from years 7 – 10, performed ZIGGER ZAGGER as part of the Tiffin Theatre Company, who are currently performing HENRY V as part of the nationwide Shakespeare’s Schools Festival.

There are ongoing opportunities for students to direct and produce plays and extracts from plays throughout the year. Students are encouraged to present performances at the end of each scheme of work to share with the Tiffin community. Last year, productions for Tiffin in the Garden, included extracts from the JABBERWOCKY and some devised performances, plus performances of monologues from year 10 students.
Every year the department hosts the House Drama Competition, which is traditionally regarded as the most competitive of the House events. Awards are for the categories of best script, best Actor and best overall performance have inspired some hugely exciting and original work from the students. Over the past 53 years of the event’s existence there have been some exciting stars adjudicating the competition such as; Johnny Lee Miller, Frank Whately and The Fonejacker, to name but a few – who have all entertained, enhancing the overall enjoyment for this special annual event.
