Dance

Dance Department at Tiffin has been described as `outstanding` by the OFSTED 2007. The dance curriculum has been especially designed for the boys and fits with student s physical skills, creative abilities and interests. Students across the board are offered a huge variety of performance experience, dance workshops and theatre trips as well as wider opportunities and after school clubs.

 Key Stage Three


In year 7,8,9 boys have one dance lesson every fortnight. Through practical exploration boys develop knowledge of variety of dance styles from different cultures and eras. Lessons are based on performance, choreography and appreciation. Students work on choreographic and performance projects every term or half term developing skills like coordination, balance, rhythm, basic dance techniques and exploring and composing actions in style of developed dance style which are later performed to each other or to the wider public. Once a year all students at this key stage have a chance to participate in variety of cultural dance workshops led by professional dancers or dance practitioners from the industry. Past workshops involved learning the following: The Haka, Capoeira, Bhangra, African and contemporary dance.

Key Stage FourLaban Boys Youth Dance Platform

At GCSE level boys follow the AQA performing arts :Dance syllabus and have 6 lessons a fortnight. Throughout year 10 and 11 students gain deeper insite knowledge and experience in choreography, performance and analysis and appreciation of their own, others and professional dance works. Boys learn how to lead and manage choreographic projects and learn self discipline through use of creative and physical skills in performance and dance practice and technique. Dance course offers great performance experience whilst performing in variety of professional theatrical settings in Kingston and London as well as promoting and supporting dance in local links schools. Students also participate in variety of professional dance workshops which enhances their learning and practice of dance
