Additional Needs

The School will enable any pupil obtaining entry to the School to play as active a part as possible in the whole School curriculum

For specific enquiries about the entrance exam with regard to a child with a statement, please contact the Admissions Department.
For the entrance tests, any Special Educational Needs, should be indicated on the Supplementary form, and supporting evidence provided if any special requirements are requested.
For Enquiries about what SEN provision is given once a place is obtained and afterwards email RShaw@tiffin.kingston.sch.uk

Provision

1.   Statemented children.
A Learning Support Assistant will support the student for the requisite number of hours commensurate with the statement. Children whose statement specified support for physical needs, or support due to Asperger’s syndrome have recently completed their education at Tiffin and are now at university.

2.   Dyslexia/Dyspraxia
A qualified Literacy teacher (0.3) supports a number of students either in groups or individually. They are supported for either dyslexia or dyspraxia or a need to gain more organisational skills.

3.   ADHD
Students progress through the school under the medication prescribed by their doctors and progress to university.

4.   EAL
There is some provision for EAL students who are screened soon after arrival. The student concerned usually has made sufficient adjustment to not require support after the first year.

5.   Hearing / Vision impaired
The school supports the actions outlined by the respective Local Authorities Visual and Auditory services.

6.   Those who have some need for social skills may be invited to be part of a small focus group which will be set up to help the individual obtain some certain self modification of behaviour.

7.  The Local Authorities in which you reside have wealth of provision which may help you through areas of difficulty. The websites for providing this help are well developed and outline how you may access support.
