More Than Just A Library

The LRC forms a major circular part of the Dempsey Centre. It seats 120 users and has 66 computers available to the boys and staff, along network points and Wi-Fi.

All boys have access to the LRC all day with permission from Teachers and it is open to all students before school, during break and lunchtime, and after school. The Sixth form also use the LRC during their private study periods.


There are two floors. The ground floor has six of the computers, study desks and shelving for approximately 32,000 resources including 6000 fiction books available to loan to students and staff. These include books, DVDs, CDs, cameras, camcorders, other AV equipment and binoculars. Boys are allowed to take out a varying number of resources depending on their year group. Current periodicals and newspapers available to use in the LRC. The boys loan all their textbooks through the LRC.

The top floor is a computer suite of sixty computers. The boys are able to print from the computers on either floor and have access to a scanner and photocopier.

Activities & Engagement A popular lunchtime book club is run in liaison with Kingston Library Service. The LRC runs the Inter-House Literary Quiz competitions and facilitates the students competing in various literary competitions with other schools. Frequent visits are arranged with published authors.
